Just a 10-minute drive from our studios, Stomio Beach offers something different from the more famous beaches in the area. It’s quiet, wild, and wonderfully unspoiled—perfect for travelers who want to get away from the crowds and enjoy nature in its raw beauty.
The beach is a mix of pebbles, rocky patches, and scattered sand. The water is crystal clear and gets deep quickly, making it ideal for confident swimmers and snorkelers. It’s also a popular spot among locals for spearfishing, thanks to the rich underwater landscape.
There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or beach bars here—just the sound of the waves and the open sea. A small river meets the sea nearby (which is where the name “Stomio” comes from), and you’ll find a beautiful little chapel (Agii Theodori) right by the beach. There’s also an abandoned gypsum factory nearby, giving the area a slightly mysterious charm.
You can park along the road close to the beach, and there’s a small traditional tavern nearby if you want to grab a bite or a drink after your swim.
What to bring:
Make sure to bring everything you’ll need—water, snacks, sunscreen, and especially beach shoes, as the terrain is rocky. An umbrella or some shade would also be a smart idea, as there’s little natural cover.
Who will love it:
Stomio is ideal for couples, solo travelers, nature lovers, or anyone looking for a quiet spot to relax, swim, and take in the coastal beauty of Crete without distractions. It’s not suitable for small children due to the depth and rocky seabed.
If you’re staying at Viva Elafonisi, Stomio makes for a perfect short trip—whether it’s a quick dip in the afternoon or a peaceful swim before dinner.
